Hume City will return to the field next month as the FFA CUP resumes in Victoria.
Football Australia confirmed match details for various Round of 32 fixtures which was postponed earlier on in the year due to ongoing COVID restrictions.
Hume City will play Port Melbourne Sharks at ABD Stadium, Broadmeadows, on November 10 at 7.30pm.
Hume coach Nick Hegarty said the players were excited to get back out there despite not having had much time to prepare.
“Everybody was excited to get out the house and have a kick for sure, we trained a couple of weeks now and everybody’s in as good a condition as can be, which is great,” he said.
“At the same time the current situation and the current rules lead us into not a fantastic preparation to be honest.”
Going into the match against Port Melbourne, Hume have lost a few big name players to A-League teams such as star goalkeeper Michael Weier.
Hegarty said the loss doesn’t worry him as the game is just an opportunity to get out playing again.
“[The FFA cup] probably has no relevance to the past season, like the integrity of the competition as a whole is probably down the toilet. But we’ll enjoy playing it, well make the most of whatever opportunities we get.”
As to whether Hume City will be able to play its Dockerty Cup final against Avondale after it was postponed due to COVID, Hegarty is unsure.
“There’s no date yet. I believe next week they might start looking at potential opportunities for that to be played,” he said.
Hegarty recently re-signed as coach for next season ,which will mark his 11th year at the club.
“It’s been a privilege to be able to help build this club with some really important people and kind of create its current state which has allowed the players to develop,” Hegarty said.
“I’m just happy to kind of continue with bigger and better things and hopefully we’ll get a chance to finish the season in 2022.”
Ticketing details will be confirmed shortly.
