Hume City had to come from behind against Dandenong City to keep its perfect record intact in the National Premier League.

After two strong wins to start the season, Hume faced another test on Saturday night against Dandenong City.

Dandenong opened the scoring in the 27th minute through a beauty from Nick Kalmar, before Hume scored twice in the second half to get the 2-1 win.

Hume coach Nick Hegarty said Dandenong tried to throw a couple of different things at them.

“They made it hard for us,” he said.

“They changed what they had done in the previous weeks to counter what we had been doing.

“To come from behind is good for the boys.”

Both teams were feeling each other out early, before Hume took control of the game.

Hume, though, would make a mistake, which led to Kalmar opening the scoring for Dandenong.

Hegarty said while they made a mistake, they had to give credit to Kalmar.

Trailing for the first time this season, Hume went back to doing what they’ve been doing so well.

It worked in the second half, as they scored twice.

Hegarty said once they got one goal, he was confident of getting a second.

“We believed in the process and eventually got our way back into it,” he said.

“The goal that equalised the game was 22 passes from start to finish, it was fantastic football and they were doing what we’ve been working on week in, week out.

“I had no doubt we would get a second goal, that’s the mindset that we’ve got.”

Matthew Lazarides and Mitch Cooper were the goal scorers for Hume.

The win has Hume sitting 3-0 after a brilliant start to the season.

Hegarty said they still had a bit to work on, but were more than happy with how things were going.

“We’re playing some really good football,” he said. “We’re doing things with a really open attacking end.

“That was the first goal we conceded in four games including the Community Cup.

“We have to take every game, one by one and every team brings a challenge and no game is easy.

“We’ll work on things that haven’t been doing so well and progress on and off field. We know we can’t relax for a second.”

Hume this week faces Melbourne Knights on Friday night under lights.
