Hume City comeback hits a wall

Hume City’s run of four games of coming away with points in NPL has come to an end at the hands of Avondale FC.

After two wins followed by two draws, Hume looked to be getting its season back on track.

But on Saturday it proved no match for third-placed Avondale,

Hume had several chances in the first half , with the closest coming in the 32nd minute as Bradley Blumenthal’s shot hit the bar.

Avondale opened the scoring later in the first half through Joseph Katebian, who had looked one of the most dangerous players on the field.

The score line was still 1-0 at half time.

Hume’s task got a lot harder early in the second half when skipper Blair Govan was awarded a red card and sent from the field.

With the extra man, Avondale started to get more looks at goal, with Stefan Zinni making it 2-0 in the 71st minute.

Former Hume star Liam Boland made it 3-0 when he converted a penalty in the 80th minute.

The result leaves Hume well and truly in the relegation zone in second bottom, but just goal difference behind Northcote City.
