Greenvale Kangaroos women’s side will remain in the Victorian Premier Cricket seconds competition next season.

Cricket Victoria announced the structure of the competition for next season, with Geelong earning promotion into the top grade.

The move will mean Geelong will enter a women’s team in the top level of women’s club cricket for the first time.

Over the course of the 2022-23 season, Geelong reached the required on and off-field performance criteria to be considered for inclusion.

The Kangaroos will continue to compete in the Premier seconds competition as it seeks to complete the performance criteria to field a side in the top grade.

Cricket Victoria premier cricket general manager Liam Murphy congratulated Geelong.

“Significant work and investment has gone into Geelong’s women’s program over the last few years and they are to be congratulated on their efforts,” he said.

“Women’s cricket has strong support from across the Bellarine Peninsula community and we’re looking forward to having them join the competition in 2023-24,” Murphy said.

“I’d also like to recognise the work of Greenvale and the path they’re on. We look forward to supporting the growth of women’s cricket in the northern metropolitan region.”

There will be nine teams in the premier firsts competition next season.
