Greenvale Kangaroos have experienced a tough start to the Victorian Premier Cricket season.
Facing Essendon in a one-dayer on Saturday, the Kangaroos were looking to start the season on a positive note.
Kyle Adams got the wicket of Essendon’s Aaron Shellie for just one – but that proved to be the high point for the day, with the Bombers seemingly doing it with ease and most of their batsmen getting starts.
The Bombers finished their 50 overs on 7-231.
, in his Premier Cricket debut, took two wickets for Greenvale, as did James Rosewarne.
Any hopes the Kangaroos had off pulling off a win were dashed early on.
The Kangaroos top four batsmen all failed to reach double figures and the side was in trouble at 4-44.
There were some small positives from the lower order, but it didn’t last long, with the Kangaroos all out for 136.
Lachlan King top scored with 34, with only three other batsmen making double figures, including Kodamullage, who made 31 to cap off a good all-round game.
The Kangaroos next opponent is St Kilda, which suffered a first-up loss to Carlton.
The Kangaroos hopes this season suffered a setback mid-week, with Aaron Smillie being successfully cleared to play with Carlton.
Smillie took 75 wickets in his three seasons with the Kangaroos, including 26 last season.
The Kangaroos’ Victorian Turf Cricket Association side had a delayed start to the season. The VTCA postponed round one, with too many grounds not ready for play on Saturday.
Round one will now be played on December 3.
