Greenvale coach Shannon Grant sticks to what he knows will work

After making the Essendon District Football League premier division grand final last season, Greenvale doesn’t plan to change much this season.

With just six losses in 2015, including four to premiers Aberfeldie, Jets coach Shannon Grant knows his side is on the right track.

Grant, in his second season as coach, said he hadn’t tinkered much with last year’s game plan.

“The boys have worked pretty hard and are pretty fit,” he said.

“I’m happy with where we’re at.

“A lot of what we did last year worked 95 per cent of the time. We’ve been working on the things we value and we just need to be better at them for longer.”

The Jets have added some more top‐end talent to an already talented squad.

Two‐time Frank Rosbrook medallist, for the Northern Football League’s division 1 B&F,

Matthew Vasilevski is joining the club from Lower Plenty, along with Northern Saints brothers Natale and Fortunato Caruso.

“They are extremely good players who will make us better,” Grant said.

“We identified a few areas where we needed to get better and they certainly fitted that category.

“They want to be part of a successful side and I hope they can help us be one.”

Grant said he was confident the club’s younger players would also continue to come through.

“Our list is shaping up well and we have a really good group of players with a decent age

range,” he said.

“Seven kids came up and played last season and another three or four who had only played 10 or 12 games entering last season.

“They will be better for the experience.”

But Greenvale will be without full forward Tom Hill, the club’s biggest off‐season loss.

“He made the decision to go back to his home club [North Ringwood] on the other side of the city,” Grant said.

“He did a good job [kicking 55 goals] in his one year at the club.

“Forwards of [199cm] who kick goals aren’t easy to replace. But we do have options and the good thing is that the way we play we don’t rely on one or two players to kick goals.”
