Bundoora RSL has pushed second-placed Clayton all the way in Bowls Victoria Premier division action.

Bundoora, which is looking to push itself into the top four in the second half of the season, was competitive in three of the four rinks, but was defeated overall.

Josh Corless’ rink got the job done 25-22 to give Bundoora two points, but the rinks of Luke Aiello, Adam Galloway and Nathan Murray lost.

Corless’ rink has been Bundoora’s best this season and is equal third on the division’s skip ladder overall.

Clayton won 82 (14)-74 (4).

Bundoora is sixth on the ladder, 25 points outside the top four.

Bottom placed Whittlesea had a tough weekend against Yarraville-Footscray, losing 86 (16)-67 (2).

In division 1, section 1, Lalor proved no match for Werribee.

While Lalor claimed one rink win, overall it lost 93 (16)-58 (2).

The loss puts fifth-placed Lalor further away from the top four – it is 25 points behind fourth-placed Glenroy.

In division 2, section 2, Epping RSL won a thriller against Craigieburn

Craigieburn won two rinks and a third rink was tied, but Epping came out on top by one shot, winning 76 (13)-75 (5).

The result means Aberfeldie CBC sits nine points clear of Craigieburn on top of the ladder, with Epping a further two points back in third.

Meanwhile, Corless and Murray have been named in the Victorian team which will play a test series against New South Wales.
