Point Cook rides the wind

Point Cook rode its luck early but came home with a wet sail to beat the dangerous Mount Lilydale by 26 points in Victorian Amateur Football Association division 4 at Saltwater Reserve on Saturday.

Kicking into the wind, the Bulldogs set up camp in their defensive half for most of the first term while Mount Lilydale peppered their goals.

The visitors had 11 scoring shots to nil by quarter-time but kicked only 2.9 to lead by 21.

The Bulldogs made better use of the wind in the second term, kicking five goals to nil to lead by 12 points at half-time.

The third term was once again about damage limitation for Point Cook, with the Bulldogs happy to restrict Mount Lilydale to three goals for the term.

The Bulldogs kicked seven of the nine goals in the fourth quarter to run out comfortable winners.

Will Dawson was the pick of the Bulldogs with five goals, taking his season tally to 16 in four games. Dawson sits equal second on the league goalkicking list, two behind leader Dale Collins of Westbourne Grammarians.

Other Bulldogs to impress were Nathan Cowie, Robbie Milne and Alex Grigg.

Point Cook is 3-1 after four games and is third on the ladder.

Premiership favourites Westbourne Grammarians dealt a 45-point hammering to Box Hill North at Elgar Park.

The Warriors are 4-0 with a sky high percentage of 430 per cent and seem unstoppable.

Adam Imber was named the Warriors’ best for the second week running.

The Warriors will meet second-placed North Brunswick at the Westbourne School Ground on Saturday. Point Cook has the bye.
