Finals race alive

The finals race in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association remains alive heading into the final round.

While Yarraville Club and Deer Park have locked in top two spots, there’s still room to move in the rest of the top two.

Sydenham-Hillside appears to have done enough despite a loss to Westmeadows on Saturday.

After day one of the match was washed out, the game became a one-dayer.

The Storm was bowled out for 176 with four balls remaining.

Skipper Anthony Alleyne top scored with 63 after coming in early with his side in trouble at 2-4.

Donovan Pell was the pick of the bowlers for the Warriors, with three wickets while Angus Price took two.

The Warriors got off to the worst possible start with Michael Pell getting a duck.

They settled and at 2-113 were in a good position.

Westmeadows then started to lose wickets including 3-3 to slip to 6-135.

The Warriors had enough in the shed to finish 1-177 with 11 balls remaining.

Donovan Pell top scored with 55.

Jack Harding took three wickets for the Storm.

The Storm remains in third spot and is a game and percentage clear of Airport West St Christophers and St Albans heading into the final round.

Westmeadows is one of four sides that are a game further back. The Warriors have the best percentage of those four sides.

In other matches, Craigieburn avoided an outright loss to St Albans.

The Eagles resumed at 4-12 in reply to the Saints 147.

Craigieburn was bowled out for just 60 with Adam Davies top scoring with 19.

Akila Isanka took five wickets for the Saints.

St Albans made 6-68 in its second innings before sending Craigieburn back in with a 155 run lead.

The Eagles finished 9-147.

Chathura Rathnaweera patabedige made 45.

Aberfeldie, Deer Park and Yarraville Club all had big wins.

Abers finished 1-117 in reply to Sunshine United’s 114, Deer Park made 2-175 in reply to Keilor’s 172 and Yarraville CLub made 5-205 in reply to Airport West St Christophers’ 9-204.

The final round is one-dayers.
