Falcons look at future in VSDCA

Roxburgh Park Broadmeadows Cricket Club is considering its future and whether it is best suited to staying the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association.

The club insists the decision to look at other possibilities isn’t one out of desperation but more one of ensuring the club’s in the best position to move forward.

In a post on the Falcons social media on Tuesday night, club president Ben Wood said the club could possibly look at moving competitions.

He said any move would be to a turf competition, meaning the Victorian Turf Cricket Association would be the likely location.

In the post, Wood highlighted a number of things for club members to think about and how they would like to see their club in future.

They include finances and cost of playing, facilities, recruiting and volunteer support.

Speaking to the Star Weekly, Wood said now was the time to look at addressing the future of the club.

He said his preference was for the club was to stay in the VSDCA and continue in its current format. The club will meet with the association later this month to discuss things moving forward.

“It’s been three years since the club merger and we’ve had some success on and off field,” Wood said.

“With myself looking to step down and Pas Sciulli stepping down after last season, there’s a need for new people to step in leadership roles. It’s the perfect time to look at this.

“The community and club members can have their say on whether they want a sub-district club in the area.

“I think it’s a positive thing to be having these discussions about the club’s future.”

The Falcons, who have struggled this season, are the only Hume based team in the VSDCA.

Craigieburn, Westmeadows and Jacana all have teams in the VTCA, while Greenvale has teams in Premier Cricket and the VTCA.
