The arrival of English international James Bracey wasn’t enough to get the Greenvale Kangaroos across the line in Victorian Premier Cricket on Saturday.
Bracey, who has played two test matches for England, made his debut for the Kangaroos on Saturday against Melbourne.
Melbourne won the toss and elected to bat, making 6-258 from its overs.
Sean McNicholl was the pick of the bowlers for the Kangaroos, with 5-53 off his 10 overs.
The Kangaroos lost Connor Hayes for one, before steadying through Josh Trembearth and Bracey.
At 1-82 they were in a solid spot but the wickets then started to fall.
The Kangaroos were eventually bowled out for 183 in the 44th over. Bracey top scored with 46 off 39 balls.
The Kangaroos sit in 15th after 17 rounds.
In other matches, Footscray won a thriller against Kingston Hawthorn.
After being sent in, the Bulldogs made 7-244 from their 50 overs.
Dylan Brasher made 50 at the top of the order, while Dean Russ finished unbeaten on 89.
The Hawks lost an early wicket, but steadied and looked on track to chase down the Bulldogs total.
The match would go down to the wire. Three late wickets was enough for victory for the Bulldogs as they bowled the Hawks out for 238 with three balls remaining.
The Bulldogs shared the wickets around with four players taking two wickets each.
The Bulldogs sit fifth on the ladder.
