Craigieburn fell short against Taylors Lakes in a thriller on Saturday in the Essendon District Football League division 1 competition.
There wasn’t much between the two teams all day at DS Aitken Reserve, with less than a goal in it at each of the breaks.
Taylors Lakes inaccuracy in front of goal seemed like it would prove costly with the Eagles ahead late into the final quarter.
A goal out of nothing to Luke Nappi put the Lions back in front with minutes to go.
They were able to hold on, winning 6.19 (55)-7.10 (52).
Harry Albon kicked two goals and was named the Eagles best along with Jai Robinson and Jamie Gorgievski.
The win sees the Eagles slip to a 3-2 record and into sixth spot, now behind the Lions and Avondale Heights.
Both Roxburgh Park and Tullamarine had tough days out against Oak Park and Hillside respectively.
The Magpies faced an Oak Park side keen to bounce back after its first loss of the season.
Oak Park jumped out of the blocks and led by 34 points at quarter time and then 52 points at the main break.
The spark went out of the game after the break, with the Kangaroos winning the half by six points as they won the game, 20.8 (128)-10.10 (70).
Teronne Potter and James Tasiyan kicked three goals each for the Magpies.
Daniel Watson, Luke Smith and Thomas Baker were named their best.
The Magpies remain the only side without a win after five rounds.
Tullamarine’s winning streak ended at one, as Hillside proved far too strong.
Both sides were coming off their first wins of the season and it was the Sharks that kept the momentum going.
The Sharks jumped out of the blocks and were about to build on the lead throughout on the way to a 20.14 (134)-7.6 (48) win.
Ivan Pavlovic, Adam Figliola and Daniel Pearson were named the Demons best.
Elsewhere, Greenvale suffered a loss to Essendon Doutta Stars in premier division, while Westmeadows inconsistent start to the season continued, losing to Northern Saints.
