Eagles knocked out in straight sets

A disappointing Northern Football League division 2 finals series came to an end for Whittlesea on Saturday.

The top side all year, with just one loss, the Eagles went out in straight sets with a massive loss to Diamond Creek.

The Eagles never fully got going in the preliminary final against Diamond Creek.

They had seven scoring shots to five in the first quarter, but missed everyone to trail by 18 points at quarter time.

Six goals to one in the second quarter blew the game open with Diamond Creek leading by 53 points at the main break.

After half time, the Eagles struggled to put on any scoreboard pressure with just five shots.

Diamond Creek was able to keep building the lead and run away with an 18.14 (122)-3.11 (29) win.

It was all single goalkickers for the Eagles.

Tom Baird, Andrew Elward and Jett McLaughlan kicked three goals each for Diamond Creek.

Matthew Lewis was named best on ground.

Diamond Creek will now face South Morang on Saturday in the grand final.
