Eagles into grand final

Craigieburn is through to the Cricket Victoria Women’s Community Cricket Competition shield 3 one-day grand final.

The Eagles hosted Frankston (2) on Sunday with a spot in the grand final against Coburg (2) on the line. Coburg 2 had a bye after finishing on top.

Craigieburn batted first and put together a solid score of 2-162 from its 33 overs. Kirsty Klempel top scored with 56 not out, while captain Litara Va’auli finished 43 not out.

Frankston started slowly in the run chase and was soon in trouble at 2-10.

It was able to then form some small partnerships with the Eagles always able to find a breakthrough at the right time.

The Eagles were able to restrict Frankston to 7-96.

Kempel and Ashnoor Saluja took two wickets each for the Eagles.

Craigieburn has faced Coburg twice during the season.

The first match the Eagles won by five wickets after they chased down the runs with two and half overs remaining.

The second time was a tie, with both teams finishing with 130 runs each.

The grand final will be played on Sunday at Hallam Reserve, Pascoe Vale from 1pm.
