Calder Cannons duo Cooper Duff-Tytler and Adam Sweid are headed from Craigieburn to Perth after both being selected in the AFL national draft on Wednesday night
Duff-Tytler was taken at pick four by West Coast.
The Woodend-Hesket star was expected to head to the Eagles early in the draft, but had to wait as the Eagles put bids in for Zeke Uwland and Harry Dean.
When those bids were matched, the Eagles quickly snapped up the 200 centimetre ruck-forward.
The news delighted a big crowd that packed Gilbert Gordon Oval in Woodend, including several family members.
Speaking on Fox Sports coverage, Duff Tytler was ecstatic to head to the Eagles.
“I didn’t know but a lot of the guys rely on [AFL reporter] Cal Twomey for all their info and that is what he had and how it’s worked out.”
Duff-Tytler focused on football this year having also been competing at a high level in basketball.
He represented Australia at under-16 level.
The gun tall said his game was similar to Luke Jackson and Tom De Koning.
Duff-Tytler was joined by his family at the table along with a photo of his grandparents, who have died.
Eagles list management and recruiting head Matt Clarke said Duff-Tytler showed plenty heading into the draft.
“He was outstanding at the draft combine, running just over six minutes for the two-kilometre time trial at 201 centimetres, which is incredible.
“He also clocked sub-three seconds for the 20 metre sprint, that’s a rare combination of size and athleticism.
“What really stands out for us is his follow-up work at ground level. He’s super clean, creative with his hands, and kicks the ball really well. He fits the modern prototype for a tall.”
Sweid, who comes from Pascoe Vale, had to wait until the last pick of the night one to hear his name.
The Dockers bid on the Essendon Next Generation Academy player.
With the Bombers choosing not to match the bid, it means that Sweid will make the move across the country.
Sweid is a small midfielder with explosive pace who was an All Australian at the National Championships. He kicked four goals for Vic Metro against the Allies.
Sweid had an outstanding 2025 that saw him promoted to the Essendon VFL side after missing 2024 with an ACL injury.
Sweid was named in Coates Talent League team of the year after averaging 25 disposals in 13 games.
He previously played at Hadfield and Glenroy.
