Donnybrook continues to pile on the wins in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association Russell Pollock Shield.
While the weather again was a topic of discussion on Saturday, Donnybrook was able to battle through and get the win against Melton Centrals.
Heavy rain during the week and on Saturday morning, meant many matches didn’t go ahead and ended in draws.
Donnybrook president Noel Seipolt said he hasn’t had to use the covers as much on the pitches in the past 50 years.
“We were on and off about 100 times,” he said. “We got there eventually.
“We’re over the weather. The conditions were pretty ordinary and we probably shouldn’t have got out there and played.
“We’ve got one of our Sunday teams that has played one match for the year.”
Donnybrook entered day two of its match with Melton Centrals in control.
Donnybrook made 6-339 on day one of the match with Puneet Sharma making 156 at the top of the order.
Centrals got through some late overs unscathed and resumed at 0-42 on Saturday.
Seipolt said they were confident of getting the points after having put together such a strong innings.
“Melton Centrals are on the bottom of the ladder,” he said. “The guys batted really well.”
Centrals weren’t able to get anywhere near Donnybrook’s total and was bowled out for 163.
Pardeep Raman took 5-40 for Donnybrook.
After five rounds, Donnybrook sits third on the ladder with a 4-1 record.
Seipolt said they were hoping to take the next step this season and make a grand final.
“Things are going really well, touchwood,” he said.
“With the team we have this year we’re hoping to go further. We had a few changes over the off season.
“We’ve got a lot of young blokes playing. It’s exciting as we have under-18s and we‘ve been trying to play a few in the higher grades.
“It’s looking good for the future. It would be good to win our premiership in our 50th year celebration.”
Roxburgh Park was also on the winners list on Saturday, beating Williamstown Congs.
The Falcons had been bowled out for 141 on day one, but had the Congs in trouble at 4-46 at stumps.
The Falcons bowlers were able to enough to restrict the Congs to 132
Sohaib Bhutta took five wickets for the Falcons.
Jacana had to settle for a draw against Wyndham Vale.
The Jaguars finished 7-152 in reply to the Vales’ 256.
