Cricket on, for some in the DVCA

Some Diamond Valley Cricket Association players will be back on the pitch this weekend, while others will have to wait another week.

The DVCA announced on Thursday its plans for the scheduled first weekend of play, with heavy rain the last few weeks leaving many grounds not ready to play.

It was good news for players in the Barclay, Money and Mash shield.

“Unfortunately, the heavy and often persistent rain that we’ve had recently has impacted a wide range of grounds around the competition, making them unfit for play,” the association said on its Facebook page.

“As a result the DVCA executive has taken the difficult decision to cancel play for all B-E Grades for round one. Affected games will instead be called a draw and points will be split between teams.

“After some careful management of grounds, Round one will proceed as planned for all shield grades and we wish each club the best of luck as they begin their 2022-23 campaign.”

Those who get to play are among the rare few.

Victorian Premier Cricket men’s competitions have been called off, as has the Victorian Turf and Victorian Sub-District cricket associations.
