Cricket: News from the north

Cricket season may be over but the game doesn’t stop. Here’s a quick look at some of the news from the local clubs.

 

Roxburgh Park­Broadmeadows

Roxburgh Park Broadmeadows has reappointed its coaching panel for next season. Adam Yates who took on the captain­coach role in the 2015­16 season will again juggle both roles, while Mitch Streiff will be assistant coach and vice-­captain. Club legend Streiff looks set to take on the president’s role replacing Ben Wood, who has decided to step down.

Mernda

Callum Dean will coach the side for the next three seasons in the Diamond Valley Cricket Association. Dean, who won the club’s Barclay Shield batting award, replaces Jamie Davis, who has retired.

Premier Cricket

Plenty Valley’s Sophie Van De Heuvel received the June Cole award for the best first­year player in Women’s Premier Cricket awards night on Friday night. Northcote’s Steven Taylor and Prahran’s Jess Cameron took out the top male and female awards, the Jack Ryder and Una Paisley medals.
