Confidence boost for Roxburgh Park

Roxburgh Park started the Essendon District Football League Women’s division 1 season with a massive win.

The Magpies experience shone through against Coburg Districts, which was playing its first ever match.

The Magpies kicked the first four goals of the game and extended that lead in every quarter, winning 13.15 (93)-0.1 (1).

Rainbow Ebert kicked three goals in her return to the club, as did Shelby Best, who is still eligible to play under-18s, and captain Sarah Mazzucco. Sarah Bond was named the Magpies’ best.

The win is a confidence boost for the side, which had a tough 2018.

In other matches, Tullamarine fell just short in its first ever match against Essendon Doutta Stars.

The Tullamarine started the better of the two sides with the first two goals of the game. They still held a one-point lead at the last break, but the Stars kicked three goals to one in the last quarter, to win 5.8 (38)-4.5 (29).

Kiandra Tuvaine was named the Demons’ best.

Greenvale Kangaroos also had a first-up loss to Aberfeldie 2.

In another battle between two new sides, Moonee Valley beat Maribyrnong Park 4.7 (31)-1.4 (10).

Avondale Heights had to forfeit its game against Keilor Park, giving the Devils the four points.

After an even first quarter, the Gorillas broke the game open in the second quarter and held on to win, 6.10 (46)-5.2 (32).

Paige Caparello kicked two goals for the Jets.

It was a week of one-sided matches in the premier division, with only one game with a margin less than 87 points.

Westmeadows flexed its muscles with a 21.21 (147)-0.0 (0) win against Craigieburn.

Renae Schwarze, in her first match for the Tigers, kicked six goals, while skipper Jacinta Scott kicked four. Scott was named best on ground.

Burnside Heights had  a good start to the season, beating the Sunbury Lions 21.17 (143)-0.0. Bears skipper Kayla Ravanello kicking seven goals.

Aberfeldie had no issues against Strathmore, beating them 12.16 (88)-0.0 (0).

Hillside knocked off reigning premiers Pascoe Vale, in anther one-sided match, winning 17.18 (120)-1.0 (6). Fiona Pazsa kicked seven goals for the Sharks and was named best on ground.

In the closest match of the round, Keilor defeated the Sunbury Kangaroos, 2.10 (22)-2.3 (15). Tanay Barbuto was named the best for the Blues, while the Rebecca Dekazos was the Kangaroos best.
