Cluney suspended for 16 weeks for striking

Reservoir’s Ashley Cluney has been given a life ban from football after an incident which left a South Morang player with a broken jaw.

Cluney was last night handed a 16 week suspension for the incident, in which he appeared to elbow the opposition player in an off the ball incident during Saturday’s match in Reservoir.
The hefty suspension means he is automatically deregistered from all forms of football. However he does have the option to appeal.
Cluney was found guilty of striking by the Northern Football League tribunal at a hearing on Tuesday night.
The incident was captured on video.
An image of Cluney has circulated, with the picture appearing to show him wearing a police tracking device.
The South Morang player spent up to three days in hospital and is unlikely to play again this season.
South Morang coach Gary Hall said he didn’t want to comment on the incident, while Reservoir has been contacted for comment.
