Caroline Springs fast start

Caroline Springs’ experience was on show in the Springers’ Hockey Victoria Vic League 2 women’s semi final win.

Having won successive premierships in their first two years, the Springers know what to do at this time of year.

A hot start proved to be the key in the knock out semi final on Saturday, beating ECHO 2-0.

Springers coach Beau Kelly said they had spoken about getting off to a good start.

“The intensity was always going to up,” he said.

“The team that wins normally settles first and I challenged the girls to accept the pressure.

“We beat them last week and they would have felt that they had something to prove.

“You could see the experience come to the top.”

It would be the first quarter that would be the difference in the end.

The Springers scored two first quarter goals. That would be the end score line.

Kelly said they didn’t look to change too much up after the start.

“We got a jump on ECHO and scored two goals,” he said. “That would be the difference at the end of the day.

“The game shot up after that and we did a lot of defending in the second half. We tried to keep it as normal as possible.

“We looked to plug a few holes. ECHO shifted the play to the other side of the ground and we worked hard to shift over and defend over there.”

Kate Gray and Violeta Sinnott were the goal scorers for the Springers.

Kelly said they would continue to take it one week at time. This week they face Casey in a preliminary final.

“They haven’t beaten us this year and  hopefully we can come out and try best. Hopefully we can come way win and win through to the granny.”

Caroline Springs’ Metro B north west team had a 2-0 win in its knock out semi final against Hume Hockey, 2-0.
