Calder Cannons captain Deanna Berry tasted success at the National Youth Girls Championships for the third time when she was part of the Vic Metro team which thumped Western Australia in the final at the MCG on Friday.

Berry, 18, and her Vic Metro teammates were clearly the best side in the three Pool A matches, winning all three by an average of 41 points.

And they saved their best for last, when they met WA for the second time after beating them in a pool match.

The Victorians dominated all over the ground game to run out winners 14.11 (95)0.0 (0).

Berry, a Mernda junior, played in three of Vic Metro’s matches but she and the team’s other stars were rested from the third match when a grand final place was all but assured.

Her performances at the championships also saw her named in the all-star squad to take part in a training camp for a curtain-raiser to the Western Bulldogs-Melbourne women’s match later in the year.

Berry had been named in the Al-lAustralian team the last two years but the all-star squad wa snamed in it place this year.

She was also part of the Vic Metro winning teams in 2013 and 2015.

The 2014 team finished runners-up.
