Bundoora got some reward for effort and took one step closer to securing its future in the Northern Football League division 1 competition for next season.
The Bulls faced South Morang on Saturday in a season defining clash for both sides.
A Lions win would mean both sides had three wins for the season heading into the last few rounds.
But the Bulls had other ideas and were able to get the win and put an eight point gap between them and the Lions at the bottom of the ladder.
Bulls assistant coach Brodric Gray said it was nice for the group to get a win like that.
“It was very rewarding,” he said. “It was some reward for effort finally.
“We had an important week on the track and we knew if the result didn’t go our way what it meant.
“They come to training with a good attitude and it was a reward for all that effort.”
Gray said they were aware that the Lions were a hard team to beat at home and had put together some good results on their home game.
The Bulls jumped out of the blocks with the wind and led 34-0 at quarter time.
They stayed in front all day and were able to come away with a 11.8 (74)-5.9 (39).
“We had a good game plan going in and stuck to it,” he said. “We got the wind in the first quarter and were able to put the game on our terms and put the scoreboard pressure on late in the first quarter.
“It was good to get away. We were able to get one goal in the second quarter against it and were able to go from there.”
Gray said while they were in front the whole game and had a five goal leading into the final quarter they had to keep the pressure on.
Liam Mallia kicked three goals for the Bulls, while Jack Maruff and Rohan McRae kicked two goals each for the Bulls.
Gray said Isaac McMillan played his best game for the club, while Riley Greene, who has committed to the club full time now, did a really good job on Noah Cumberland.
Harry Butterworth was another one who did a really strong defensive job for the Lions.
Gray said they had a lot of contributors.
For the Lions, Cumberland and Joshua Lansfield kicked two goals each.
Tye Hall and Jesse John Christidis were named the Lions best.
Gray said they were hoping to continue building for the rest of the season.
“We are building a team culture and hopefully we can get a few more wins on the board,” he said.
“We’ve been knocked around and there’s been knocks on the club from the outside.
“We’ll look to get more wins on the board and get the winning culture. We’re up for the fight and we’re not going to take anyone lightly.
“Hopefully we can take a bit of momentum and take some scalps.”
