Broncos on the winners list

Hume City Broncos got their second win of the Big V men’s state championship on Sunday.

The Broncos travelled to Blackburn to face the Blackburn Vikings.

It was a fairly even first quarter with the Broncos leading by one point at quarter time, before the Vikings took a four point lead into half time.

The third quarter turned the game in the favour of the Broncos, shooting 36-22 for the term to lead by 10 points at last quarter.

The Broncos were able to finish the game off strongly, winning 114-100.

Zach McKenzie top scored with 31 points, while Scott Stone had 26 points as all five openers scored double figures.

The Broncos now sit 2-2.

It was a tougher weekend for the Broncos women as they lost both of their matches.

On Saturday night, the Broncos lost to Wyndham.

Wyndham started well and was able to build its lead throughout, winning 115-81.

Tegan Handle scored 30 points for the Broncos.

On Sunday, the Broncos faced the Bulleen Boomers.

The Boomers jumped out to a 16 point lead at quarter time. From there the Broncos were in chase mode and while they were able to make up some ground, it wasn’t enough with the Boomers winning, 69-59.

Tashia Overby top scored with 19 points.

The Broncos sit in sixth spot.
