Broncos big boost

Hume City Broncos have looked to strengthen its squad with a couple of big signings for the Big V state championship men’s season.

After making finals last season, the Broncos have added two more imports to the side, joining Chris Elder, who returns from last season.

Coach Matt Foster said they were hoping that it would be a good season for them.

“It came along quickly,” he said. “We’re looking good with a couple of new players.

“We only had one import last season, so two big ins should be massive for us.

“Anthony Dell’Orso grew into a key player and carried part of the load. The calibre of these guys once they settle in and gel, gives us another option.

“It’s pretty exciting with some new teams coming up into the division and a few teams stocking up and adding some good players.

Troyce Manassa makes the cross from fellow state championship side Western Port Steelers.

Chris Kaba has played for a number of Big V clubs including Whittlesea, Knox, Keilor and Sherbrooke.

Foster said they had looked to bring in imports that had Big V experience, with many players taking time to adjust to the competition and umpiring in Australia.

As well as imports, the Broncos have added some Broncos juniors to the squad.

Elijah-Taye Saifale and Hayden Mcintosh, who both played games last season, have come into the squad full time.

Foster said this season they had a bit more depth in the squad and would have a bit more of an experienced side with a few younger players surrounding them.

One big out for the side is Dell’Orso, who is in America playing college. Foster said what Dell’Orso did last season was quite phenomenal.

The Broncos start their season on Saturday against Keysborough Cougars.

Foster said they were confident of having another strong season.

“We want to get into finals and from there, anything can happen at that time of year with health and injuries,” he said.

“We hope to be in finals contention having added two big pieces. It’ll take a little bit of time to gel at the start but hopefully towards the end of the year we will be in contention.”
