Broadmeadows’ finals hopes continue to decrease in Bowls Victoria’s division 2, section 2.

Sitting 30 points outside the top four, Broadmeadows needs big victories in the remaining rounds to remain in the mix.

They faced the toughest challenge of all on Saturday, facing ladder leader Sunbury at home.

And in a close match in which the teams split the rinks, Sunbury won 74 (14)–69 (4).

Sunbury’s two rink wins of 23-16 and 22-16 proved to be the difference.

While the loss didn’t see them fall any further behind the top four on points, Sunbury did slip from fifth to seventh.

In the same division,Craigieburn recorded an easy win over bottom side Moonee Valley (2), winning 117 (18)-65 (0).

And Lalor (2) lost 77 (16)-68 (2) to Yarraville Footscray (3).

In premier division, Bundoora RSL slipped further behind the top four after losing to Melbourne.

In a tight match, only three shots separated the two sides with Melbourne winning 75 (14)–72(4).

RSL, who sits seventh on the ladder, is now 20 points behind fourth-placed Essendon.

This week they face ninth-placed Brighton.

Bundoora RSL (2) maintained second spot in division 1, section 4 with an 81 (16)–67 (2) win over Lalor to stay one point clear of third-placed Hurstbridge.

In other matches in that section, Whittlesea lost to Donvale by one shot, 82 (14)-81 (4).

The loss sees Whittlesea slip one spot on the ladder to sixth, but only three points behind Lilydale.
