Former South Morang footballer Alyssa Bannan has claimed the round two AFL Women’s Rising Star nomination, alongside Charlie Rowbottom.

Bannan plays for Melbourne’s AFLW side, and has taken the momentum of her debut season and run with it.

She was nominated for the Rising Star award after finishing with two goals and eight disposals in Melbourne’s win over Richmond on Friday night.

The 19-year-old was selected with the team’s first pick at number five in the 2020 ALFW Draft.

Bannan’s speed, strong overhead mark and ability to run and carry have made her a dangerous target inside 50.

Two players in the AFLW competition are nominated each week for the Rising Star Award, with each nominee awarded $500 prize money from NAB to acknowledge their achievements.

Each nominee’s junior club also receives a Club Recognition Award pack worth $2000 of practical and financial resources.

The winner of the AFLW Rising Star award, announced at the 2022 awards night, receives $20,000.
