Big V

The Hume City Broncos recognised their women’s Big V team of the decade for 2011-2020 on Saturday night. The team is full of premiership stars, led by two-time league most valuable player Colleen Planeta. Nicole Zammit, Sarah Wright, Jacinta Scott, Viven Saad, Rebecca Romeo, Yinka Olorunnife, Mua Lalofi, Natalie Karantzoulis and Sophie Byrnes round out the team. Warren Taylor was named coach of the team. On court, the women’s team had an 85-63 win against the Pakenham Warriors, while the men’s side lost to the Western Port Steelers, 90-78.

NPL

Whittlesea Ranges’ struggles continued on Saturday against Nunawading City on Saturday in the National Premier League 3 competition. The bottom placed Ranges, trailed 4-0 before a late goal to Daniel Galati, reduced the margin. Nunawading won, 4-1. The Ranges have just one win for the season and sit seven points behind 11th placed Ballarat City. This week the Ranges face the Preston Lions on Friday night.

Northern FL

Mernda kept its finals hopes alive with a win against Heidelberg West in the Northern Football League division 3. It was a close game throughout with the Demons leading by one point at the last break. Five goals to one in the final quarter, sealed the 14.13 (97)-10.11 (71) win. Ryan Bongetti, who kicked three goals, was named best on ground. The Demons sit in sixth, four points behind Kilmore in fourth. In other results, South Morang won a low scoring game with Old Eltham Collegians, while Laurimar smashed Lalor.

NAB League

A strong second half was the catalyst behind a good win for the Northern Knights against the Calder Cannons in the NAB League Boys competition on Saturday. The Knights led by 22 points at half time, having been inaccurate in front of goal. After the break they kicked six goals to three to get the, 10.16 (76)-5.5 (35) win. Benjamin Ham kicked three goals for the Knights and had 34 possessions, while Josh Hamilton had 37 possessions. For the Cannons, Jack Brown led the way with 29 possessions.
