Good Friday football will return to the Essendon District Football League women’s competition this year. The league released the fixture for the three women’s divisions last week, with the league having the same amount of women’s teams as last season. Strathmore earned promotion to the top flight after winning last season’s division 1 grand final. Burnside Heights has been relegated to division 1. Tullamarine is the other new team in that division, after winning the division 2 premiership. Moonee Valley 2 has dropped down to division 2. Division 2 will be a seven team competition.
VFL
Former Essendon rookie Tom Wallis is back at the Bombers having signed for this year’s Victorian Football League season. Wallis, the son of two-time premiership player Dean Wallis, returns to the club having moved back from Western Australia. Former Western Bulldogs defender Brad Lynch has also signed with the side after training with the Bombers AFL side while trialling during the supplemental selection period.
AFLW
Essendon has signed North Melbourne defender Brooke Brown during the AFLW’s priority signing period. Brown, who played 24 games for the Kangaroos, is a former basketballer, touch rugby players and track and field athlete. AFLW list and recruiting manager Georgia Harvey said Brown is a rebounding defender who has great game sense and athletic ability, which will make her a key asset for them and their defensive structure.
