For every dollar spent on Glenroy Football Club, $4.40 is returned in social value to its surrounding community, a study has revealed.
The joint study by Latrobe University, AFL Victoria and the AFL found that community football clubs generate a wide range of benefits for their local communities, including increased physical and mental wellbeing as well as social and economic benefits.
“We’re like a small country town within a suburb,” Glenroy president Jason Leffaune says.
“Our club has a big influence on the surrounding area, helping out the local businesses and also providing a great place for local kids to play footy where they live.”
The results of the study were launched by AFL CEO Gill McLachlan at Glenroy Football Club.
