FFV: Greenvale United premiers after mauling Mitchell Rangers

Greenvale United secured the FFV state league 5 north title in style on Saturday with a 9-0 win over Mitchell Rangers.

The Panthers entered the game against bottom-of-the-table Rangers knowing a win would ensure the title and promotion.

While the Panthers are only three points clear of Northern United with one match to play, a vastly superior goal difference means ladder positions won’t change whatever the results.

Northern United beat Reservoir Yeti 2-0 on Saturday, Mill Park beat Sporting Carlton 2-1 and Keon Park belted Light United 6-1.

In state league 2 north west, the battle for top spot will go to the final round with only a point separating North Sunshine Eagles and Corio.

In the same division, Hume United’s 2-2 draw against Moreland United moved the club four points clear of relegation and ensured its position for next year.

Sporting Whittlesea lost to Westvale 1-0.

In state league 3 north west, Lalor United went down 3-1 to Brunswick Zebras, while Whittlesea United lost 1-0 to Altona City.

The battle for second spot on the ladder behind Essendon Royals will continue into the final round, with only one point separating Essendon United and Old Carey with Altona City one point further back.

Upfield won the state league 4 north title with a 3-2 win over Fawkner, while West Preston, Parkville Panthers and Plenty Valley Lions were also winners.

Heidelberg United and Darebin United, and Bundoora United and Northern Falcons shared the points
