VWFL: Melton Centrals declared winner after Jacana coach gets yellow card

UPDATE: A Jacana VWFL coach has been found not guilty after she had been given a yellow card and the match called off on Sunday.

The Victorian Women’s Football League match between Jacana and Melton Centrals was called off after Jacana coach Sharron Kelly-Campbell was awarded a yellow card for conduct unbecoming from the sidelines.

AFL Victoria’s Anthony Stanguts said the umpire explained the yellow card and as no replacement/suitably accredited coach was available, the game was called off with just minutes to go.

Melton was leading at the time by 32 points and was awarded the win.

Kelly-Campbell was last night (Tuesday) found not guilty by the AFL Victoria Tribunal after being charged under VWFL rules and regulations rule 43, of conduct unbecoming, prejudicial or likely to bring the game into disrepute for allegedly behaving in an abusive, threatening, obscene or insulting manner towards and in relation to the umpire.

She had pleaded not guilty.

Jacana club president Rick Lloyd said the club was disappointed by the incident.

“A young girl was umpiring by herself and Sharron said: ‘Are you frickin joking’ to one of the decisions and she was given a yellow card.

“There was no malice or fights during the game and there was only a couple of minutes left in the game.”

Lloyd said the club was hoping the case would be thrown out at the tribunal.
