NPL: Whittlesea Rangers pipped at post by Richmond

Despite an improved performance by the Whittlesea Rangers against Richmond in the National Premier League 1 on Friday night, the Rangers went home without the points.

A goal in the 79th minute to Richmond was enough for a 1-0 win at Kevin Bartlett Reserve.

Rangers coach Vinco Buljubasic said the match could have gone either way.

“It was disappointing as I thought the boys played well,” he said.

“It was a much better performance from last week and a massive improvement. If we’d taken tour chances early it may have been a different result.

“In general play we were much better and were able to keep possession.”

“We hit the post and had a couple of one-on- one opportunities, which we missed.

“We’re happy with the way we played but not the result.”

Buljubasic said the backline had stood tall for the Rangers.

“Rami Mustafoski in the backline was really good, as was goalkeeper Anthony Raspudic despite conceding the goal.

“John Reale was also good and Matthew Iuliano worked tirelessly.”

At one point in the game, tempers boiled over between the two sides and they had to be broken up.

This week the Rangers face Buljubasic’s old club, North Geelong.

In NPL, Hume City shared the points with Port Melbourne at JL Murphy Reserve.
