TAC Cup: Calder Cannons fly out of blocks against Bushrangers

The Calder Cannons’ impressive start to the TAC Cup season continued with a 50-point walloping of the Murray Bushrangers on Saturday.

The Cannons kicked five goals in the first term at Highgate Reserve and kept the Bushrangers goalless to open an early 32-point lead.

The Bushrangers were able to halt the run in the second term, but they cut the lead by just three points. The Cannons regained control in the second half to win 13.5 (83) to 4.9 (33).

Peter Wright and Jayden Foster kicked three goals each for the winners. Touk Miller was best on ground and was well supported by Foster and Nicholas O’Kearney.

A goalless first quarter put the Northern Knights behind the eight-ball against Geelong Falcons at Simonds Stadium on Saturday.

The Falcons extended the lead to 33-points at the half. The Knights were better in the second half but were unable to make inroads on the scoreboard, losing by 35 points: 14.4 (88) to 7.11 (53). Chris McCabe and Samuel Switkowski kicked two goals each for the Knights.

The Cannons are second on the ladder with five wins and a loss. The Knights are in ninth with two wins. This week, the Cannons travel to Geelong to take on the Falcons and the Knights head to Ballarat to face North Ballarat Rebels.
