A poor showing with the bat against Bayswater has seen Roxburgh Park / Broadmeadows lose touch with the top Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association.
Chasing Bayswater’s first innings of 191, Roxburgh Park managed only 126 in reply, regularly losing wickets as Bayswater’s bowlers applied the choker hold.
Starts to Kurtley Brandt (29 off 87) and Mitch Streiff (26 off 70) could not be capitalised on and only late-innings runs to Patrick Matautaava (18 off 15) and Lester Herathge (13 off 21) prevented a complete embarrassment.
Seeking an outright win to ensure a home final, Bayswater batted again with a lead of 65.
Ben Hanley, who usually bats in the middle order, was put up to open and cracked 60 from just 37 balls, with nine fours and a six.
Daniel Carr also chimed in with 12 as Bayswater declared at 0-76, a lead of 141.
Roxburgh Park’s nightmare continued, losing eight wickets as Bayswater edged ever close to an outright victory.
Luke Turner was outstanding for Bayswater, picking up 4-25 to back up his 4-30 in the first innings, while Brandt was the only batsman to reach 20.
Roxburgh Park was saved by the clock, finishing at 8-87 from 17 overs.
