VSDCA: Quacking aplenty as Valley’s top order fails

Plenty Valley’s flood of runs this season came to a brief halt on Saturday as a normally prolific top order failed to fire against Balwyn in north-south First XI.

Three ducks in the top five left the heavy lifting to the tail as Plenty Valley reached 207 by the 72nd over at Balwyn Park.

Dylan Forster bucked the trend in the top order to make 64, holding down an end as Plenty Valley slumped to 8-118.

But support arrived in the form of No.10 Justin Jaensch (32no) and No.11 Adrian Wilson (34).

Jaensch then struck in the five overs before stumps to leave Balwyn 1-10 before the rest of the run chase this weekend.

In east-west first XI, Roxburgh Park-Broadmeadows’ batting struggles continued as the Falcons were out for 105 by the 56th over against Croydon.

Mitchell Johnstone (28) and Daniel Patrick (34) saved RPB from 7-44 with a 46-run partnership.

Croydon reached 2-53 at stumps in reply.
