GREENVALE rallied from 20 points down at half-time to beat
Avondale Heights by 11 and claim top spot in Premier division on
Saturday.
Aberfeldie’s 112-point thrashing of Maribyrnong Park meant a
Greenvale slip-up would have handed the minor premiership to the Two
Blues.
But a seven-goal third term inspired by Rhys Bloomfield (four
goals) and Trent Shinners (three) turned the tables as Greenvale won
13.11 (89) to 11.12 (78).
Greenvale will now play Aberfeldie in the qualifying final at
Highgate Reserve in Cragieburn on Saturday, while Avondale Heights meet
Airport West in the elimination final at Coburg City Oval.
The Eagles take losing form into the match after a
54-point loss to Keilor, while Essendon Doutta Stars beat Pascoe Vale by
57 and Strathmore thrashed Oak Park by 175.
In Division 2, Hillside has one hand on the premiership cup after romping to a 106-point victory against Moonee Valley.
The Sharks led by just two points after a low-scoring first
quarter but powered away on the back of eight goals from Fab DiLizia to
win 22.12 (144) to 5.8 (38).
And East Keilor 15.14 (104) eliminated Keilor Park 9.7 (61).
Saturday’s preliminary final between Moonee Valley and East Keilor is at Leo Dineen Reserve in Tullamarine
