CRAIGIEBURN Eagles lost a heartbreaking semi-final by a point to Geelong in Big V women’s division 1 on Sunday.
Geelong won 53-52 at Craigieburn Leisure Centre after holding on in the dying seconds.
Craigieburn had the last possession with 11 seconds left but turned the ball over without taking a shot at the go-ahead score.
Giulia Dinunzio and Ellie McLean were Craigieburn’s best as the Lady Eagles rallied from eight points down in the last quarter.
Dinunzio’s three-pointer from the corner put Craigieburn up 52-51 with 57 seconds left, but Geelong’s Louise Johnston held her nerve from the free-throw line to give Geelong its match-winning lead.
The Eagles won 63-51 on Saturday night to keep the semi-final series alive.
Warrandyte Venom progressed to the grand final by sweeping Whittlesea Pacers in the other semi-final series.
