Yarrambat Lake will be filled with trout to keep young families entertained these school holidays.
More than 35,000 catchable rainbow trout has been put in Victorian lakes, with Yarrambat Lake having its allocation doubled from previous years, with 1000 catchable rainbow trout for keen fishers.
The annual school holiday stocking program is part of the state government’s $96 million package to improve fishing, boating, piers and aquaculture.
The stocked rainbow trout are ideal for newcomers.
Outdoor Recreation Minister Sonya Kilkenny said as the weather starts to heat up, it is a perfect time to get the lines back in the water.
“Lakes like Yarrambat will be full of life these holidays and with many featuring facilities like walking tracks, playgrounds and barbecues, you can enjoy the great outdoors with a picnic lunch and maybe even take fresh fish home for dinner,” she said.
Yan Yean MP Lauren Kathage is enthused about northern fishers having extra fish to catch this spring.
“Yarrambat Lake is incredibly popular with fishers each and every school holidays, and now there’ll be nearly twice as many rainbow trout here to bring big smiles to the faces of local fishers and their families,” she said.
A daily bag limit of five trout applies, of which only two trout can exceed 35 centimetres.
