World War II grenade thrown at Lalor house

Police have released an image of a man they wish to speak (supplied),

A World War II-era hand grenade was thrown at a Lalor house last year in an attack police believe is linked to ongoing feuds between Middle Eastern crime gangs.

Detectives from the Echo Taskforce believe the attack, which happened just before 2.30am on Sunday, November 19, 2017, was targeted.

Police said a woman and her baby were sleeping in the front room of the house at the time of the attack, but were not injured.

It is believed a man drove up to the property in a dark-coloured, late ’90s to early 2000s Toyota ute and parked in Yuonga Court.

He threw a grenade at the property before running behind a parked vehicle in Yuonga Court to watch the explosion.

The man then returned to his ute and drove out of the court. He returned to the scene a short time later.

The grenade exploded out the front of the house, causing significant damage to the building and several parked cars.

Police have released an image of a ute similar to the one seen in the area at the time of the attack (supplied).

Police said the device used had been identified as a Yugoslavian-made M52 hand grenade.

A number of people came out on to the street after the explosion and it’s believed the offender stayed in the street for some time before leaving in his ute.

Detectives have released an digital composite image of a man they wish to speak to and are appealing for anyone with information about him, or who saw the vehicle in the area, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
