Whittlesea council has endorsed its latest annual report, detailing the delivery of infrastructure, sustainability and community development achievements last financial year.
Mayor Martin Taylor said the report showcases how the council, together with residents, partner organisations and all levels of government, is “building a place for all”.
“We are building the infrastructure, services and programs that support every stage of life, ensuring the City of Whittlesea continues to be a place people are proud to call home,” Cr Taylor said.
Over the year, council delivered more than 113 projects through its $107 million capital works program, including the redevelopment of playgrounds, upgraded shopping precincts and sporting grounds, and key road projects through the $7.9 million extension project at Plenty Road and Everton Drive in Mernda.
Sport and recreation proved a strong focus, with council driving the opening of the $2.6 million FIFA-accredited synthetic soccer pitch at Partridge Recreation Reserve in Lalor and continued progress on the regional sports precinct in Mernda after being awarded a $42.14 million contract in September 2024, and which will soon include an indoor stadium and outdoor netball courts.
Council also advanced work on the $2.4 million project for the Aboriginal Gathering Place at bunjil nganga Parkland Quarry Hills, including the planting of over 7000 indigenous trees at the site, while a $16.2 million community centre in Wollert and a $11.4 million community centre for Donnybrook are continuing to take shape.
Speaking at Whittlesea’s Tuesday 21 October council meeting, Cr Jarrodd Lappin praised the report for its ability to highlight Whittlesea as a “forward-thinking” council.
“The annual report paints an incredibly good picture and it drives home the fact this city is well-run, it’s organised and it’s a forward-thinking council,” Cr Lappin said.
“There’s great work being done to build up our growth suburbs and revitalise our established areas.”
Other highlights include $2.5 million in grants handed out to support local groups, businesses and individuals, the launch of improved council and tourism websites, a new customer service portal, and a creative program at Plenty Ranges Arts and Convention Centre.
