Whittlesea Festival goes green

This year’s Whittlesea Community Festival is returning with a commitment toward looking after the environment, encouraging festival goers to take a stroll down Sustainability Lane.

Sustainability Lane will feature at the festival with a range of eco-friendly ideas and programs on show, as well as hands-on activities that visitors can get involved in.

As part of this commitment, food vendors at the festival will be serving up their delicious food on reusable plates and bowls from ‘Green My Plate’ in an effort to reduce the amount of waste produced

Whittlesea council chair administrator Lydia Wilson will also be officially launching the Sustainable Environment Strategy 2022-32 and Climate Change Plan 2022-32 at the festival.

“These plans were adopted at the council meeting in November 2022 and outline our environmental priorities over the next ten years to ensure we are creating a liveable and sustainable environment for our residents,” Ms Wilson said.

There is so much to see and do at Sustainability Lane, including:

– A guided walking tour to Quarry Hills Bushland Park

– Get up close and personal with the Animals of Oz

– Kids outdoor bush activities with Eco Explorers

– Take part in a nature mindfulness meditation session

– Try out an e-bike

– Learn about local community gardens and how you can get involved

– Get your bike repaired by the friendly volunteers from the Mernda Repair Café.
