Whittlesea council has updated its Election Period Policy to reinforce transparency and integrity for candidates ahead of the upcoming federal election.

Endorsed at the March 18 council meeting, the revised policy outlines stricter guidelines for councillors and council officers seeking election.

Key changes include prohibiting election materials in council-owned spaces, banning campaign promotion during council meetings, and preventing officers from using their position to gain an electoral advantage.

Deputy mayor Daniella Zinni said the update provides clear boundaries for those considering a campaign.

“This policy update provides clarity to both councillors and council officers who may be considering running in the upcoming Federal election and ensures that integrity and transparency is maintained.”
