World Environment day is Monday June 5 and to celebrate the city of Whittlesea is hosting a range of events throughout the week.

On Monday and Tuesday sustainable wearable art workshops will take place at the Whittlesea community activity centre and the Lalor library. In the workshops people can repurpose everyday plastics into small, wearable art pieces.

On Tuesday locals can head to the Mill Park softball association car park to dispose of their small household electrical or electronic items. The council is collecting them and will dispose of them in an environmentally friendly way.

People can take computers, televisions, vacuum cleaners, printers, toasters, hair dryers, DVD players and video cameras. However white-goods will not be accepted.

On Thursday the council is hosting forest therapy in Epping. Locals can meet at the Epping Stadium car park before embarking on a three hour walk through the forest. The trek is said to have significant physical and mental health benefits, with positive effects on the immune system that can last for several days.
