Former Manningham council boss Joe Carbone has been named as Whittlesea council’s new acting chief executive.
Mr Carbone will join the council on March 2, taking over the acting chief executive role from Kelvin Spiller.
Mayor Emilia Lisa Sterjova said the council had appointed Mr Carbone for up to 12 months.
“[This] will allow council the necessary time to initiate a thorough recruitment process to hire a long-term CEO,” she said.
Council said Mr Carbone has worked in executive leadership roles across local government, health care and manufacturing/retail.
He was chief executive at Manningham council from 2012-2016, and was also chief executive of the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.
Mr Carbone is also the founding executive partner of confectionary companies Suga and Koko Black Group.
Cr Sterjova said Mr Carbone’s insights on innovative leadership, diverse stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement for customers, will be a huge asset to the council.
“I would like to welcome Mr Carbone to the City of Whittlesea, and I am confident that he will be a great leader for our organisation, and our community,” she said.
Mr Carbone said he would focus on “empowering the organisation” to chase innovation and continuous improvement.
“For the past 36 years, my work has been dominated by eras of industry reform, requiring a constancy of future thinking while building capability in teams to deal with ambiguity and embrace change,” he said.
Mr Spiller, who was appointed acting chief executive in November after the council sacked former chief executive Simon Overland, will leave the council on February 28.
He told the council earlier this month that he could not continue in the role due to personal and other business commitments from March.
