Whittlesea cop helps deliver baby on Yan Yean Road

Whittlesea police officer Alana Olivieri’s work sometimes involves saving lives, not bringing new ones into the world.

But that changed on her way to work on May 11.

The first constable was driving on Yan Yean Road in Doreen when she noticed a car abruptly pull over about 5.30pm.

Ms Olivieri’s sense of duty kicked in – so she stopped to investigate.

“After discovering a frantic husband and expectant mum in the back seat in the final stages of labour, it quickly became apparent they needed some assistance,” a police spokeswoman said.

Ms Olivieri quickly called triple-0 and assisted the couple with the birth.

The end result was the delivery of a healthy baby boy to grateful first-time parents Melissa and Kyle Sherwood.

Baby Charles Arthur Sherwood is now at home with his proud parents.
