Nominations have opened for the 2025 City of Whittlesea Community Awards.
The awards will celebrate a citizen, young citizen and senior citizen, as well as an access and inclusion citizen and a sustainable environment citizen, or group, of the year.
Whittlesea mayor Lawrie Cox said he encourages residents to nominate someone who has made a difference.
“Whether it’s volunteering, supporting neighbours, protecting our environment or inspiring change… the City of Whittlesea is home to so many remarkable people,” he said.
“These awards provide an opportunity to shine a light on those everyday heroes who make a real difference in the lives of others.
“We can come together to celebrate their achievements and continue to build a stronger, more vibrant city.”
The community award committee will evaluate and assess the nominations before determining a winner.
The committee is made up of one councillor and member of the council’s executive leadership team (non-voting) community members and award recipients from last year.
During the Tuesday 18 November council meeting, six community members were appointed to the committee until October 2028.
The 2024 Young Citizen of the Year award recipient, Zachary Melvaine, said the award has been encouraging.
“It’s humbling to know my efforts are being recognised… it gives me a boost to keep giving back,” he said.
The awards will be presented during the annual community festival on Sunday, 15 March 2026.
Award nominations close on Sunday 15 February, 2026.
