Whittlesea celebrates vaccine milestone

Whittlesea council has taken to social media to celebrate the municipality reaching the 90 per cent double COVID-19 vaccination target.

According to new federal health department data, 90 per cent of the eligible population in Whittlesea had received two doses of the vaccine as of Sunday, November 28.

In a post to the City of Whittlesea Facebook page, the council congratulated the community.

“This is a huge effort, and we thank everyone for rolling up their sleeves and helping our community get back to what they love!” the post said.

The council encouraged more participation in the vaccine roll-out, and posted links to GP, state hub and pharmacy information.

It comes as 94.1 per cent of the eligible population in Hume have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to the data..

Meanwhile, both Whittlesea and Hume were in the top 10 local government areas for new cases of the virus on Thursday, Victorian health department data revealed.

Whittlesea recorded 63 new cases of the virus, while Hume recorded 81.
