Recycling waste from across Hume and Whittlesea is heading to landfill for a third week.
The councils are among 33 Victorian councils left without access to a recycling facility after the Supreme Court declared SKM to be insolvent on August 2.
The decision to wind up the company, which has a plant in Coolaroo, came a week after SKM notified councils it would temporarily cease accepting kerbside recycling collections.
In a statement, Whittlesea council said it was considering all possibilities for the future of its recycling collections.
“We just don’t have an answer yet,” the statement said.
“We are working closely with other councils and the state and federal governments to find a solution to this recycling crisis.”
Hume council released a statement saying it was seeking advice about its contract with SKM and was working with the Metropolitan Waste and Resource Recovery group to understand the implications of the court decision.
“Residents can still recycle through a range of initiatives, including soft plastic stations at supermarkets, including Coles and Woolworths,” the statement said.
“If you have moved to a new house or have some big deliveries, you can drop off large quantities of paper and cardboard at a range of Visy facilities in Victoria, including in Campbellfield.
“Residents also have the opportunity to drop off clean and sorted recyclables at council’s resource recovery centres in Campbellfield and Sunbury.”
