Motorists in Melbourne’s north are being advised to prepare for delays as crews work around the clock next weekend to upgrade a key intersection in Wollert.
Craigieburn Road East and Lehmanns Road will close at Epping Road from 8pm Friday, April 11 to 5am Monday, April 14 while Major Road Projects Victoria delivers a “finely co-ordinated” blitz as part of the Epping Road upgrade.
The works include upgrades to existing lanes, kerbs, medians and drainage, along with new traffic islands, shared paths and street lighting.
Epping Road will remain open in both directions with reduced speeds, regular traffic holds, and expected delays of up to 20 minutes during peak periods.
Access to private properties and businesses will be maintained, and a temporary bus stop will be set up for route 390 passengers.
Once the works are complete, traffic will temporarily shift onto the new eastbound lanes on Craigieburn Road East while upgrades continue on the westbound side.
Major Road Projects Victoria program director Dipal Sorathia said the works had been strategically timed to reduce long-term disruption.
“Co-ordinating works to upgrade this key intersection over one weekend will allow us to reopen Craigieburn Road and Lehmann Road sooner and minimise impacts on the community,” Ms Sorathia said.
“We appreciate the patience of local residents and drivers as we work to deliver safer and more-reliable travel between Wollert and Epping.”
